Super Eagles forward, Akor Adams, has received continental recognition after his sensational strike against Algeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco was named among CAF’s Top Five Goals of the continental soccer tournament.

As highlighted on the TotalEnergies AFCON 2025 X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Adams’ memorable effort came during Nigeria’s quarter-final clash with Algeria. His clinical finish, showcasing precision and composure, was instrumental in securing a 2-0 victory for Nigeria.

The crucial goal played a significant role in helping Nigeria achieve a third-place finish in the prestigious competition. CAF’s selection of the top five goals celebrates not only spectacular individual moments but also those that profoundly influenced match outcomes, with Adams’ inclusion underscoring his increasing prominence in African football.

Other Standout Goals in 2025 CAF’s Top Five:

* Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco): El Kaabi produced a stunning bicycle kick shortly after coming on as a substitute. His perfectly timed, acrobatic effort against Comoros looped over defenders and the goalkeeper, providing a truly spectacular moment.

* Christian Kofane (Cameroon): Teenage sensation Christian Kofane announced his arrival on the AFCON stage with a thunderous 30-yard strike that left the Mozambique goalkeeper with no chance. This goal not only aided Cameroon’s progress but also marked him as a bright young talent.

* Adil Boulbina (Algeria): In a dramatic last-16 encounter against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Boulbina emerged as Algeria’s hero with a breathtaking extra-time goal, securing a 1-0 victory and a spot in the quarter-finals. His strike was a masterclass of timing, technique, and sheer impact.

* Pape Gueye (Senegal): Amidst a controversial and chaotic final against hosts Morocco, Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal. In the fourth minute of extra time, his powerful left-footed shot into the top corner clinched a 1-0 win and Senegal’s second AFCON title.

CAF’s diverse top-five list this year showcases the wide array of talent and spectacular moments throughout the tournament, from long-range screamers to acrobatic finishes. Adams’ inclusion is a testament to his growing influence on the African stage and highlights the exciting future of Nigerian football.
