Senate President Godswill Akpabio has distanced himself from a planned rally allegedly organised to honour him, labelling it as ‘satanic.’
The rally is said to be organised by a group known as the Progressive Peoples’ Resolution (PPR), led by Ubong Idemudo.
Akpabio, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, said he was unaware of any demonstration scheduled for April 4 in Akwa Ibom.
He urged his supporters and residents of the state to disregard the event and go about their normal activities.
The statement also suggested that the rally was being orchestrated by “fifth columnists” seeking to exploit Akpabio’s name for ulterior motives.
“The planned rally, from information pieced together, is the handiwork of fifth columnists trying to use the name of the Senate President to achieve their devilish goal,” the statement reads.
Akpabio also called on security agencies to interfere.
“The police and other security agencies in the state are by this statement directed to ensure that such satanic rally is not allowed to hold, as such has no approval of the Senate President,” the statement added.
