Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his wife, Ekaette; Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno; the inspector general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun; and other eminent Nigerians have been bestowed with excellent service awards by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.
The commissioner of Police (CP), Baba Azare, who doled out the awards, explained that the recognition became necessary following years of collaboration, unwavering support and synergy towards ridding the state of crimes across the 31 local government areas of the state.
The ceremony which took place Sunday, during the Command’s Dinner and Award Night held at Ibom Hall, IBB Way Uyo, attracted dignitaries from different walks of life.
In his remark at the event, Governor Eno expressed gratitude over the recognition, and the synergy among the different security agencies in the state.
“We are indeed so grateful and thankful to the CP for his creativity and synergy with other security agencies to combat crime in the state,” he said.
The governor commended the police command for hosting the event, describing it as a demonstration of innovative police-public relations and proof that excellence is not limited to Abuja.
“I also thank sister security agencies for their collaboration in ensuring peace in Akwa Ibom. The success of one agency is the success of all,” he said.
Governor Eno promised to continue to support them to enhance effective policing across the State.
The state chief executive reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Akwa Ibom a major tourism destination, and announced plans to flag-off a 5,000-capacity international conference centre, as well as Ibom Hotels.
He paid tribute to notable officers like Francis Erhabor, a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Washeed Ayilara, the Late Commissioner of Police, for their contributions to the state’s security architecture, especially the late Commissioner for the role he played in the ongoing construction of a Command and Control Centre.
