The president of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has called on the Nigerian judiciary to play a pivotal role in promoting peace and unity in the country by ensuring the fair administration of justice.
Senator Akpabio made the appeal on Sunday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, at a special thanksgiving event held in honour of Hon. Justice Ntong Festus Ntong, who was recently elevated to the Court of Appeal.
In a statement issued to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, by his special assistant on media/communication, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio emphasised the importance of justice in nation-building.

“The core of the problem of Nigeria is injustice. Where there is injustice, there can never be peace. May God continue to use our judicial officers as vessels for justice for this country and the global community,” he said.

Praising Justice Ntong as a courageous and distinguished legal professional, Senator Akpabio urged him to maintain the highest ethical standards in his new role.
He commended Justice Ntong’s contributions to Nigeria’s judiciary and encouraged aspiring lawyers to emulate his exemplary qualities.

“My Lord, you are a pride to Akwa Ibom State and the legal profession. I urge you to continue to uphold this high ethical standard at the Court of Appeal as Akwa Ibom is very proud of you,” he stated.
Reflecting on Akwa Ibom’s representation in the judiciary, Senator Akpabio recounted his tenure as governor, during which he prayed for the elevation of an Akwa Ibom indigene to the Supreme Court. This prayer was answered with the appointment of Justice Inyang Okoro.

“Justice Ntong, you are not going to be the only one. There will be many others after you so that Akwa Ibom State will continue to contribute to justice in Nigeria,” he added.

Justice Inyang Okoro, a Justice of the Supreme Court and chairman of the occasion, lauded the legislature for improving the salaries and allowances of judicial officeholders. He also encouraged Justice Ntong to maintain integrity in his new position.

In his response, Justice Ntong expressed gratitude to his well-wishers, stating that their support has motivated him to continue serving the nation with selflessness and dedication.

Justice Ntong’s elevation follows a decade of distinguished service at the High Court of Akwa Ibom State, marked by exceptional achievements that have inspired many in the legal profession.
