The killings of the Etuk brothers in circumstances yet to be unravelled by the police who claimed to have launched a manhunt for the assailants.

LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the House has impressed it on Governor Umo to come up with the Executive Order in a bid to stem the problem of incessant killings and for security agencies to step up their act in safeguarding lives and properties in the state.

Armed hoodlums, it was learnt, stormed the family compound of the deceased brothers located at Nnung Iyoho community at about 11:00 pm last Thursday.

The hoodlums reportedly vandalized the house near the popular Nsit Ibom Market (Udua Nsit Ibom), where they broke down the door before hacking the elder Etuk to death.

The assailants later moved to his younger brother at his own wing of the family compound, where they also killed the 50-year-old in cold blood.

However, responding to a matter of urgent public importance brought before the House by the member representing Nsit Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Eric Akpan, at the weekend, the House said it has taken a decisive step to address the rising security challenges in the state.

LEADERSHIP Weekend recalls that dozens of persons have been gruesomely murdered by suspected armed cultists, ritualists and fraudsters popularly called Yahoo – Plus boys in the Uyo metropolis lately.

Such victims includes a young lady, whose body was dismembered and her vital body parts taken away while the other remains were stocked in a Ghana -Must – Go bag, and dumped at the Anua area of Nwaniba, Uyo, the state’s capital.

Another victim, also a woman was beheaded at the Udo Udoma Banking Layout, while a final year Computer Science student of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), identified as Daniel Okon, was shot dead at 13, Ikpa Lane, in the students’ community of Idak Okpo, within the metropolis.

Following these frightful incidences, the lawmakers passed a resolution directing the Clerk of the House, Mrs. NsikakAbasi Orok, to “send a mandate to the Governor, requesting the Commissioner of Police, Director of DSS, and other security agencies to beef up security around the state.”

The resolution, which was reached during the plenary chaired by the Speaker, Elder Udeme Otong (Abak), expressed grave concern over the collapsing security architecture in the state.

The lawmakers also directed the Chairman, House Committee on Security, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, to “liaise and call for a stakeholders’ meeting.”

“This meeting will include the Commissioner for Police, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, and other Security chiefs in the state to chart a way forward for the security of the state.

The committee is expected to report back to the House within two weeks interval,” he charged.
