Akwa Ibom Gov’t Adopts TSA To Curb Fraud

The Akwa Ibom State government has expressed strong determination to curtail widespread corruption in government and allied institutions and has resolved that all financial transactions must be made through the Single Treasury Account (TSA).

LEADERSHIP learnt that this was part of the resolutions reached at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held presided over by Governor Umo Eno at the Exco Chamber of the Government House in Uyo, the State capital.

Addressing Journalists at the end of the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Elder Aniekan Umanah, explained that the decision became necessary following a memo to that effect by the finance ministry.

“The Executive Council, as a follow up to the presentation by the Ministry of Finance, deliberated on the report on harmonisation of the Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) Treasury Single Account (TSA).

“Consequently, the SEC approved the formal adoption of the TSA policy to enhance revenue efficiency, block leakages and promote transparency.

“The TSA platform, “Akwaremit”, alongside the State land management platform, “AkwaGIS”, are scheduled for official launch on September 1, 2025,” the commissioner said.

Towards enhanced sports development, the Council also ratified the Finance and General Purpose Committee (FGPC) memo on the renewal of the maintenance contract with Julius Berger Plc for an additional one-year term effective July 1, 2025.

He noted that this was for sustainable maintenance of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions).

“Council also considered and approved an FGPC memo from the Commissioner for Finance and Supervising Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport on additional works at Ewet Luxury Estate, occasioned by topographical challenges and revised architectural designs for the project.

“Council also ratified two FGPC memos presented by the Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, and approved the construction of 4.541km internal single carriage roads with 0.48km discharge drains, including service ducts, walkways, and manholes at Dakkada Luxury Estate, Uyo.

“In accordance with Section 18(1) of the State Fiscal Responsibility Law, Council, following the presentation by the Hon Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, considered and approved the State Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) for 2026–2028.

“The three-year indicative framework, based on macroeconomic assumptions, is to be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for legislative action,” he said.

The Commissioner added that following a status report by the Commissioner for Sports on preparations for the forthcoming Akwa Ibom Sports Festival, Council approved the replacement of obsolete sporting equipment to host the various events.

The Governor further directed the ministry to develop a comprehensive State sports assets inventory system to enhance safety and ensure proper maintenance.

Also, as part of efforts to consolidate the ARISE Food Security Programme (AFSP), the State Council considered a report from the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and approved the commencement of Phase III of the free food distribution programme across the 31 local government areas, beginning August 20, 2025.

In the same vein, the Council also considered and approved the public Presentation of the ARISE Socio-Economic Impact Framework (ASIF) -to access governance performance and present factual developmental data on the present administration as presented by the Economic Adviser to the Governor.

In furtherance of government’s commitment to making the State Open Defecation Free (ODF), the Council also approved the construction of sanitation and hygiene facilities in public spaces and institutions in Obot Akara, Ikono, Esit Eket, and Nsit Ubium LGAs as a pilot scheme.

Umanah stressed that this followed the consideration of a report from the Ministry of Water Resources.
