Benue State governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has inspected equipment procured for the state-owned rice mill located in Wadata, Makurdi local government area.

The government said the mill built during the administration of former military administrator of Benue State Aminu Isa Kontagora, has been moribund and abandoned for years by previous administrations.

The technical adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, in a statement yesterday, said the revival of the mill marked a major step towards revitalising the state’s economy and reviving small-scale industries.

Iorpev said the revival of the mill demonstrated Governor Alia’s commitment to bringing a total turnaround in the economy of Benue.

“It is a clear demonstration of his dedication to creating opportunities for women and promoting economic inclusivity.

“However, with Governor Alia’s vision for a thriving economy, the mill is set to be operational once again, under the management of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, “he said.

“This initiative is a deliberate effort to boost women’s participation in small-scale businesses, which are the bedrock of economies.

By providing opportunities for women to thrive, Governor Alia is empowering them to contribute to the state’s economic growth and development.”

He expressed confidence that the initiative will have a significant impact on the lives of women and the overall economy of the state.

Governor Alia encouraged the people of Benue to welcome, “this development and look forward to the benefits that will accrue from the revival of the State Rice Mill,” the statement said.
