The All Progressives Congress Grassroots Governance Group (APC G3) has taken a swipe at the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum for criticising the party’s national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
The APC G3 described the group’s statement as “reckless, ill-motivated, and unworthy of attention.”
The Forum had earlier expressed regret for supporting the emergence of a North-Central candidate as APC national chairman, accusing Yilwatda of promoting a religious agenda and allegedly using his office to advance personal political interests in Plateau State.
But in a press release issued by its national coordinator, Chuks Oyema, the APC G3 dismissed the allegations as baseless and mischievous.
According to Oyema, Yilwatda has, in a short time, stabilised the party, strengthened internal cohesion, and attracted new members across the country.
“The so-called Forum should tell Nigerians who they are working for. Are they enemies of the party or people angry that the National Chairman is doing well?” APC G3 queried. “Or are they PDP members pretending to be with us?”
The APC G3 also faulted the attempt to frame Yilwatda along religious lines, insisting that the National Chairman’s Christian faith should not be weaponised for political mischief.
“Professor Nentawe Yilwatda never plays with his faith as a Christian, and that should not be a problem. A genuine forum should promote religious coexistence, which the APC stands for,” the group said.
It added that since assuming office, Yilwatda has continued to woo new members “and more are coming,” a development the group believes will boost the party’s chances in future elections.
The APC G3 further accused the North-Central Forum of double-speak, claiming to support President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 project while simultaneously undermining one of the President’s strongest allies within the party.
“The National Chairman is quietly spreading the Renewed Hope Agenda across the country. Perhaps the intellectual input he brings to preaching the agenda is too difficult for the Forum to comprehend,” it stated.
The group stressed that Yilwatda has opened the party’s doors to everyone with genuine intentions and has performed creditably within the short period he has led the APC.
“Party faithful should disregard the call of the so-called Forum,” the APC G3 concluded.
