A civil society group, Movement for Truth and Justice, has debunked recent media reports suggesting a crisis within the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), describing the allegations against the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Dr. Aminu Maida, as the handiwork of mischief makers.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the group’s convener, Comrade Grace Ujata, cautioned media outlets against publishing unverified and malicious stories targeted at public officials. She urged journalists to embrace professional ethics, including balance and objectivity in their reportage, to avoid becoming willing tools in orchestrated smear campaigns.
According to the group, the recent media attacks on Dr. Maida were part of a calculated effort to tarnish his image and forcefully remove him from office. “We have credible information that certain individuals with strong ties to key figures in the Ministry and National Assembly are pushing for a female replacement who currently enjoys close rapport with top government officials,” Ujata alleged.
She further warned that if the campaign of calumny persisted, the group would be compelled to name those behind the plot.
The group also expressed concern over the role of some disgruntled assistant directors within the NCC, many of whom allegedly failed recent promotional exams and were now fueling internal discord to serve external interests.
“These individuals are reportedly funding media attacks, using their frustrations as leverage to destabilize the Commission,” she stated.
Commending Dr. Maida’s leadership, the group highlighted his alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and credited him with repositioning the NCC for greater efficiency and innovation.
“Dr. Maida has demonstrated competence, integrity, and focus in his leadership. He deserves commendation, not condemnation,” the group stated.
