Deputy chairman of the Elders Council in Imo State, Prince Lemmy Akakem, has called on all governorship candidates in Imo to respect the signed charter of equity and allow Governor Hope Uzodimma to complete his second term.
He made the disclosure during a media parley organised by the former state secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nze Ray Emeana who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prince Akakem said elders of the state had in unison agreed in the spirit of the charter to allow Uzodimma be their sole candidate in the forthcoming election to complete his tenure and handover to Owerri zone.
According to him, it will be a setback for candidates from Owerri zone or Okigwe zone to attempt to disrupt the arrangement, saying it will be an upstage and will disorganise the arrangement.
Akakem explaining on the uniqueness of the present charter said “You see, this not just an arrangement by the elders or anybody, it’s also ordained by God, Bishops gathered at the Ndubuisi Kanu square where they prayed over it, likewise the traditional rulers who also poured libations warning against it any upstage.
“See, zoning has succeeded in Anambra, Enugu and it is succeeding in Abia, so why can’t we support it in Imo”. Akakem queried.
Meanwhile, the former PDP scribe, Nze Ray Emeana, appealed to the media to support the charter to bring lasting peace to the state.
He appealed that they should stop sensational reports that can heat up the polity, saying the state is for all.
