Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for the completion of the access road to Saburi 1 and 2 which was flagged off in February last year.

At the road’s commissioning ceremony yesterday in Abuja, Maikalangu referred to Wike as a “talk and do” minister, noting that construction began immediately after the flag-off, leading to the timely completion of the project.

Wike Promises To Deliver On Promises Made To FCT Residents

In a gesture of appreciation for Wike’s impactful work, Maikalangu announced that Gbagyi people had affectionately named the minister “Wike Abowoweyi,” (Wike, the magician of our time), reflecting the transformative improvements he has brought to the FCT.

Maikalangu who likened his request for help from the FCT minister to that of Oliver Twist, appealed to him to address the urgent needs of the Zaudna, Kaba and Kagini communities which currently lack adequate access roads.

He pointed out that the roads had been neglected for decades and were in dire need of construction which involves building two bridges.

“At the flag-off, many suspected it was mere political rhetoric, but immediately after your team left, construction commenced with bulldozers and workers on-site every day until completion,” he said.

Maikalangu conveyed the profound impact of the road on the Gwagwa Ward community, emphasising that it has significantly boosted local businesses and economic activities.

He expressed the deep gratitude of constituents, stating, “You are a minister who understands our challenges and knows that we in the villages deserve access to the same amenities as those in urban areas.”

Maikalangu expressed gratitude for the promises fulfilled by Wike, including the rehabilitation of the Life Camp – Fish Market – Karmo – Dei-Dei Road, which is currently undergoing significant improvements.

Responding, the FCT minister acknowledged Maikalangu’s requests and commended AMAC for its extensive project initiatives, stating, “You have qualified yourself to dine with kings and deserve all the support.”

He said construction work on the Dei-Dei access road would commence within a month, with a commitment to complete the project before the year ends.
