The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has announced that its 2026 Mobile Advertising Permits are now available for issuance to the public, corporate organisations, and logistics operators within the council’s jurisdiction.
In a statement issued on Sunday, AMAC urged owners of branded vehicles—including cars, trucks, delivery vans, motorcycles and dispatch bikes—to commence the process of obtaining or renewing their permits ahead of the new operational year.
The statement, signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the Executive Chairman, Mr. Kingsley Madaki, reaffirmed that AMAC remains the only constitutionally authorised body to collect mobile advertisement rates within the municipal area.
“The collection of mobile advertisement permits is a responsibility clearly vested in Local Government and Area Councils by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended),” the statement said.
“It is guided by the AMAC Mobile Advert Bye-Laws, which provide the legal framework for the regulation and collection of such rates.”
The council issued a stern warning to the public to beware of individuals or groups falsely claiming to represent the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration or other agencies for the purpose of collecting mobile advert fees, stressing that AMAC has no affiliation with such persons.
AMAC further clarified that any permit or payment made to any agency other than the Council for mobile advertisements within its jurisdiction would be deemed invalid and unenforceable.
To curb the activities of fraudsters and road-side touts harassing motorists, the council said it has introduced strict payment protocols, stressing that all payments must be made directly into designated AMAC revenue accounts.
Business owners were cautioned against making payments into personal bank accounts or handing over cash to individuals operating on the streets.
“Only stickers and certificates issued through the official AMAC portal and duly verified by the Council’s Revenue Department will be recognised,” the statement added.
The council also called on stakeholders, particularly logistics companies operating large fleets of branded vehicles and motorcycles—to visit the AMAC Secretariat to regularise their documentation.
“Our objective is to promote orderliness and support the business community. Early compliance through approved channels protects businesses from harassment and contributes to infrastructural development within the Council,” the statement noted.
AMAC disclosed that enforcement for the 2026 permit cycle will commence in the first quarter of the year, adding that security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute impostors found posing as AMAC revenue officials in relation to mobile advertising permits.
