The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) yesterday donated relief materials to the Rivers State government to assist residents of the state affected by flood.

The items include 300 cartons of Indomie noodles, 40 pieces of 50 kilogramnes bags of rice and 30 bags of 100 kilogramnes of garri.

Presenting the items in Port Harcourt, PAP coordinator, Major General Barry Ndiomu, who was represented by his special assistant on special duties,  Fraston Akpor, said the agency was planning a post-flood initiative for the affected communities.

He said: “The PAP interim administrator, who is a son of the Niger Delta, feels the plight of the people and the communities that are impacted in the Niger Delta. Being a son of the soil, he felt he should do something.

“Here we are to provide some relief materials as palliatives to give immediate remedial attention to the people impacted. These are foods we consider instant that people can use within this trying period.

“After this, we are also looking at post-flood era. During post-flood era, we will be having several challenges. When the water has receded, there will be issues of cholera and other water-borne diseases, including malaria.

“So, what the interim administrator has planned for the people is to do a second phase. The second phase is going to be expansive.”
