Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Ibikunle Amosun, has briefed members of his constituency on why he withdrew his presidential ambition and supported the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amosun, who is the immediate past governor of Ogun State also urged his constituents, as well as the generality of Nigerians to vote the APC’s presidential flagbearer, Tinubu as Nigeria’s president in the forthcoming year 2023 general elections.
He spoke at the Ake Palace Ground in Abeokuta, the state capital shortly after a meeting with the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.
Addressing a crowd of supporters at the welcome party organized by the state chapter of APC to welcome him home after the party’s convention, Amosun explained that he has always priorities the interest of the South Western Nigeria to take over after the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, hence, the need to step down his aspiration for the national leader of the party, Tinubu.
He said Tinubu was the best of all the aspirants from the southern part of Nigeria vying for the party’s presidential ticket.
Amosun said he was left with no other alternative than to jettison his ambition, particularly when all governors from the North were even lobbying supports towards ensuring that the presidency returns to the South.
He, however, admonished the teeming supporters of the party, who thronged the reception venue to continue praying for the party, as well as Tinubu’s success at the forthcoming general elections, expressing the optimism that the country would be great.
