Amusan Blazes Into Commonwealth Games 100m Hurdles Final With Stunning 12.19s

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan produced a breathtaking display to qualify for the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after storming to victory in her heat with a remarkable time of 12.19 seconds.

Amusan dominated Heat One from start to finish, crossing the line comfortably ahead of South Africa’s Marione Fourie, who finished second in 12.50 seconds, while Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill placed third in 12.69 seconds.

The Nigerian’s time, achieved with a tailwind of +3.8m/s, is the fastest ever recorded at the Commonwealth Games under any conditions. However, it will not stand as a Games record because the wind speed exceeded the legal limit of +2.0m/s for record purposes.

Despite the wind-assisted conditions, Amusan’s commanding performance underlined her status as one of the favourites for the gold medal, as she looked composed and in complete control throughout the race.

The former world champion will return later on Thursday for the final, where she will aim to add the Commonwealth Games women’s 100m hurdles title to her impressive list of international achievements.

Amusan’s qualification continues Team Nigeria’s strong showing in athletics at the Glasgow Games, with the country seeking to build on its growing medal haul.
