Nigeria’s world record holder, Tobi Amusan, will make her long-awaited return to competitive athletics when she headlines the women’s 100m hurdles at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on 4 July.

The organisers confirmed that the Nigerian star will compete at Hayward Field, a venue closely tied to some of the greatest moments of her career.

Amusan has not raced competitively for six months following the World Athletics Championships 2025 in September, but her comeback race promises to be one of the highlights of the Diamond League season.

For the 28-year-old, Eugene represents more than just another meeting. It was at Hayward Field during the World Athletics Championships 2022 that Amusan stunned the athletics world by smashing the world record with a remarkable 12.12 seconds, while claiming her first global title.

She returned to the same venue a year later to win the Diamond League final, further cementing her reputation as one of the greatest sprint hurdlers of her generation.

Her return will not be short of competition. The field includes reigning Olympic champion Masai Russell, two-time world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica and World Championships bronze medallist Grace Stark.

Russell arrives in strong form after a breakout 2025 season that included a Diamond League victory and a meeting record of 12.19 seconds in Silesia.

The race promises a compelling clash between established champions and emerging contenders, with Amusan seeking to remind the world that she remains the woman to beat in the sprint hurdles.
