Anambra State has forged a strategic partnership with Edves, an EdTech platform, to introduce artificial intelligence-driven ‘smart schools’ across all 21 local government areas and the capital signaling an overhaul of the state’s education landscape.
The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, is a bold move to embed artificial intelligence, data analytics, and project-based learning into Anambra State’s academic structure, with the ultimate vision of transforming the state into a hub of digital education excellence.
Anambra State in a statement, said, “Edves sets itself apart from traditional EdTech platforms by harnessing the power of AI to elevate teaching standards and deepen student engagement. Its advanced features such as personalised learning paths, adaptive lesson planning, and predictive analytics; empower educators to deliver tailored instruction, track student progress in real-time, and provide a dynamic, enriched learning experience.”
It noted that central to the Smart Schools programme is Project-Based Learning (PBL), designed to develop students’ critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
In addition, the AI-powered infrastructure enables real-time evaluation of students’ cognitive, emotional, and physical development. This functionality supports educators in enhancing their teaching strategies and assists policymakers in crafting data-informed decisions on education reforms.
The initiative includes innovations like AI-powered school oversight, automated enrollment for pupils and teachers, digital attendance tracking, and smart scheduling for lessons and extracurriculars.
Speaking, the co-founder and chief executive officer of Edves, Dimeji Falana, stressed that the collaboration goes beyond automation. He highlighted that it promotes experiential learning and the practical application of knowledge in real-world contexts.
Falana said, “this initiative empowers educators and students with tools that enhance inquiry-driven learning while ensuring secure data management and inclusive education.”
On his part, the managing director of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Agbata, lauded Soludo’s commitment to educational advancement.
“The Smart Schools are a testament to his vision of making Anambra a technology-driven knowledge hub,” he said.
Also, the co-founder and chief operating officer of Edves, Dare Adebayo, led the sensitisation for the baseline assessment exercise. He explained that “a sample of students from JSS 1 to SSS 3 in the 22 designated smart schools has been selected to undergo testing in English and Mathematics. This initiative aims to establish a foundational benchmark for student performance.”
Adebayo noted that “the results will guide education policy recommendations and targeted interventions at the school, local government, and state levels.”
He added that the findings from the baseline assessment will be transformed into actionable insights to address learning gaps and enhance overall educational outcomes across Anambra State.
The baseline assessment was carried out by Edves in collaboration with the Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission across the 22 smart schools.
It noted that “AI-powered infrastructure in Anambra is boosting STEM and vocational learning, adaptive assessments, and special needs education. With over 170 interactive math and science simulations, it encourages exploration, while AI-driven tools support students’ emotional well-being.”
