Since the past few weeks the Anambra state government has declared war against traditional medicine practitioners who indulge in diabolical practices, especially those who prepare charms for the “get-rich-quicks” (otherwise, known as money ritualists), kidnappers, armed robbers, etc.

To give the government action legal backing the state House of Assembly has passed a law christened Home Land Security Law, 2025. The provided for the establishment of the state government security outfit code-named “Udo Ga Achi” and “Agunechemba”. The law also prescribed jail terms and fines or both anyone convicted under the law should serve or pay respectively.

Already, a two-storey building structure in Oba, Idemili-South local government area said to be housing multiple tombs with dead bodies inside them has been pulled down by the state government. The owner of the hotel who was said not to be around when the government agent struck is said to have been on the run since then. About two native doctors who are believe to be indulging in the criminal preparing charms for money ritualists, including using human-parts such “Akwa Okukotiwara aki” and “Onye Eze Jesus” have been arrested by the state government security operatives.

Meanwhile, a renowned native doctor in the state, Prophet Ramas Okoye-Azuzu based in Nri, Anaocha local government has advised the state to immediately set up the state traditional medicine practitioners council to help sanitise traditional medicine practice in the state of diabolical practitioners.
Azuzu-Okoye bemoaned that unscrupulous and fake native doctors are giving bad image to bonafide traditional medicine practitioners arguing that genuine practitioner does not indulge in any act inimical to human life, and, wellbeing.

Considering the fact that traditional medicine practice and native doctors are most not scientifically compliant, there is need for the establishment of a state traditional medicine/native doctor practitioners’ council and give the council mandate to register members and regulate the practice.
