He polled a total of 1,455 votes in the APC governorship primary election to defeat three other contestants: Valentine Ozigbo (67 votes), Johnbosco Onunkwo (26 votes) and Edozie Madu.

Chairman of the APC National Committee for the conduct of the Gubernatorial Primary Election and governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, declared Ukachukwu winner of the election at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, venue of the primary election in early hours of Sunday.

In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu thanked President Bola Tinubu, Governor Otu-led APC national committee, delegates and entire party members in the state for ensuring that the election was conducted free and fair, especially for the confidence reposed in him to fly the party’s governorship flag.

He assured that his candidacy will win the governorship election for the APC even as he issued a Red Card to the incumbent governor of the State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who is also the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance’s (APGA) candidate in the governorship poll.
