As polling continues across Anambra State, senior citizens have been seen actively participating in the governorship election, casting their votes to ensure their voices are heard in the democratic process.
At various polling units, elderly men and women, some likely in their 70s, were accredited and cast their votes.
Observers noted that older women, in particular, were seen engaging in the voting process alongside other age groups, highlighting their continued commitment to shaping the political future of the state.
Electoral officials emphasised the importance of accommodating all voters, especially the elderly, to ensure a free, fair and inclusive exercise.
So far, the exercise has remained peaceful, with no reported failure of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) or security incident in the areas monitored in Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Aguata local government areas of the state.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a total of 2,802,790 registered voters across 21 local government areas, 326 political wards, and 5,718 polling units are expected to participate in choosing the next governor in the state.
The Commission also discloded that over 1.7 million voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while more than 7,000 BVAS devices have been deployed for the election.
As the day progresses, electoral officials continue to ensure a smooth voting process, while observers and voters remain optimistic of a successful exercise.
