Anglican bishop of the Niger, Rt Rev Owen Nwokolo, has praised the commitment of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi, to transforming Nigeria into a better place.
He stated that Obi started showcasing his commitment and agenda for Nigeria’s transformation right from when he was governor of Anambra State.
The Anglican clergy spoke yesterday when he received Obi at the University on the Niger (UNINIGER), Iyi-Enu, Idemili-North local government area when the former LP presidential flag-bearer donated N60 million to the institution.
The UNINIGER visitor recalled that it was Obi who helped the School of Nursing Sciences, Iyi-Enu, to regain its accreditation when he was governor after it lost the accreditation as a result of the dilapidation of infrastructure.
“If other leaders in this country are like you, this country would have been better. I am optimistic that this country will be better and you will play a role.
“I recall that when you were governor, the accreditation for this place (School of Nursing) was withdrawn; you came and gave us support and we regained accreditation. Since then, you have been coming to support us,” Bishop Nwokolo stated.
In his speech while presenting a cheque of N10 million and N50 million for upgrading of infrastructure at the School of Nursing Sciences and UNINIGER respectively, Obi commended Rt Rev Nwokolo for effectively managing the institution.
He stated that his interest in supporting the School of Nursing was because the institution is renowned for producing the first certificated Nurse in Africa.
