Anioma indigenes of Delta State have described the priority given to the creation of Anioma State as encouraging.

They said the state creation would help in properly balancing the federation which is currently skewed against the Igbo.

In a statement, Tuesday, by the director of Media and Publicity of the Anioma State Creation, Chief Osita Tonnie Oganah, the group lauded efforts made by President Tinubu and the ruling APC-led administration towards ensuring Anioma State becomes a reality.

Anioma people of Delta state comprises of nine predominantly lgbo-speaking people of Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Ika North East, Ika South, Oshimili North, Oshimili South and Ukwuani local government areas.

The statement also commended all for this widespread support towards Anioma state creation, commended the Senator representing Delta North, Barr. Ned Nwoko for championing the struggle for Anioma State creation just as he hailed the two other senators from Delta State, Joel Onowakpo and Ede Dafinone for supporting the Anioma State creation request.

Also, Ogana commended traditional rulers, youths, artisans, market women, business, political and academic elite of Anioma extraction for supporting Nwoko in his efforts towards the Anioma state project.

“It is evident that the request for Anioma state will soon become a reality given the planned Senate Public Hearing on its request which begins on July 4, 2025.

“The priority given to the Anioma state creation request has been encouraging and should help in properly balancing the federation, which is currently skewed against the Igbo.”

Ogana further stated that Asaba which was the first capital of Nigeria was the theatre of  genocide during the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, which ended in 1970, stressing, “If created, the new state would be viable as enough oil and gas as well as mineral resources abound in the state.

“Asaba, the current capital of Delta state, has a modern and functional state House, Secretariat, commissioners quarters, etc, so no new and expensive capital project will be embarked  on there. Warri, another city in Delta state equally boasts of fitting infrastructure as well.” he added.
