Fresh details have emerged from the clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, with allegations of looting, destruction of vehicles and theft of personal belongings during the incident.
The Kaduna State APC Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Sani Haruna, told LEADERSHIP Weekend on Friday that about eight to nine vehicles belonging to APC supporters were damaged during the clash, while political banners and the party’s support office were also destroyed.
Sani also alleged that N3.5 million was stolen from one of the vehicles, while another vehicle was said to have lost N500,000 during the incident.
He said more than 20 people were injured in the clash, including six women, adding that two of the victims sustained critical injuries.
According to him, several of those injured were taken to hospital for treatment, although many had been discharged after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
A victim of the incident and Public Relations Officer of the Mafita Progressive Leadership Network, Ambassador Sanin Yaya, also alleged that valuables were taken from the premises during the attack.
Yaya said a laptop containing project materials belonging to the secretary of the group was among the items allegedly taken.
He alleged that the attackers forced their way through the gates of the premises before smashing vehicles and attacking people inside.
Yaya said the incident occurred around the time of Magrib prayer, forcing people at the premises to flee and hide in different locations.
He further alleged that more than 100 people participated in the attack and that several supporters sustained injuries while trying to escape.
However, the spokesperson to Ashiru, Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi, gave a different account of the extent of the damage.
Adubi alleged that about 20 vehicles were damaged during the clash and that three female supporters were hospitalised.
He also alleged that phones and other valuables belonging to supporters were taken during the incident.
According to him, the valuables were allegedly taken by political thugs who participated in the attack.
The rival accounts could not immediately be independently verified, while the identities of those responsible for the alleged theft and destruction remained unclear as of press time.
The clash has heightened concerns over the conduct of political activities in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
