APC Chieftain Ajiboye Defends Tinubu’s Reforms, Describes Opposition As ‘Bitter’

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Biodun Ajiboye, has strongly defended President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style and reform agenda, arguing that the president possessed unmatched courage, intellect and experience among Nigeria’s political class.

Ajiboye spoke on ‘Politics Today’, a current affairs programme on Channels Television on Monday night, where he praised Tinubu for undertaking far-reaching reforms despite the political risks involved.

“Give me one person that has the knowledge and ability and bravery of Bola Tinubu,” Ajiboye said. “If Bola Tinubu was the kind of person that is timid, he would not undertake most of the reforms he’s undertaken. This is a patriot… who believes that the health and life of Nigeria is far more important than him returning to power in 2027.”

According to him, Tinubu has been transparent with Nigerians about the difficult choices facing the country.

“He has been truthful with Nigerian people. He’s been honest with the Nigerian people. He’s taken the bull by the horn,” Ajiboye added.

The APC chieftain also questioned the capability of key opposition figures to govern when compared to the president.

“Now, tell me among the opposition, one person that you think has the kind of intellect, the kind of bravery, the kind of knowledge and the kind of experience Bola Tinubu has,” he said, listing several prominent politicians including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Governor Peter Obi.

He singled out Lagos State as a benchmark for governance, asking, “Which state of Nigeria can compare with Lagos as we speak?”

Ajiboye was particularly critical of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom he accused of offering little beyond rhetoric. “Don’t even talk about Peter Obi. Peter Obi is just ranting all over Nigeria, telling people what they do not know,” he said.

He further described opposition alliances as driven by resentment rather than clear ideas for national development.

“Any group of people that come together because they are bitter, they cannot make headway. They cannot provide for Nigeria what Nigeria needs,” Ajiboye stated, urging Nigerians to focus on addressing the country’s challenges rather than what he described as “anger and bitterness” in opposition politics.
