Chief David Sabo Kente, a 2023 gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress APC in Taraba State has donated a plot of land worth N1,100,000,000 to the Taraba State government on Monday as part of activities to mark his 60th birthday anniversary.
Kente also secured the release of 15 inmates serving jail terms for minor offences at Wukari Correctional Service during the birthday celebration in Wukari, the headquarters of the Wukari local government area.
The donation of the over N1b-worth plot of land followed the request presented by Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State during Sunday’s Thanksgiving service in honour of Chief Kente’s 60th birthday anniversary. Kefas requested that Kente donate his hectares of land to the state government to construct a General Hospital.
During the Thanksgiving service, Kefas, who was the special guest of honour, while presenting his speech during the service, requested that Kente donate or sell his 220 hectares of land located in Wukari to the Taraba State government for the establishment of the state-owned General Hospital.
“The Taraba State government has no General Hospital within Wukari. We are set to establish one now. We, therefore, found a beautiful piece of land suitable for the purpose of the hospital. While making enquiries, it was gathered that the land belongs to you, sir.
“Please donate the land to us or provide a soft landing for us to acquire the land for the establishment of the hospital. We shall name the hospital after you, for you have been a great asset to Taraba State,” Kefas stated.
Kente, while briefing journalists shortly after he commissioned a house he built and donated to a friend in Wukari as part of the birthday activities, stated that he had agreed to freely donate the 220 hectares of land to the state government for the construction of the General Hospital in Wukari.
“The governor made the request to me during the Thanksgiving service in honour of my birthday yesterday. I have decided to donate the land to the state government to construct the General Hospital. The lives of my people come first. I am looking forward to seeing that he keeps to his promise by establishing the hospital on time,” Kente stated.
