APC Clears Ekiti LG Poll

The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the state local government election held on Saturday.

The EKSIEC Chairman, Justice Cornelius Akintayo (rtd), who announced the results of the council poll, said the ruling party won all available 38 chairmanship and 177 councillors seats.

The election, it would be recalled, was conducted in all the 177 wards, 22 Local Council Development Areas and 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

Justice Akintayo made the declaration at the situation room of the state electoral body in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The announcement was made following the presentation of the results by the Returning Officers in all the Local Government Areas LGAs and Local Council Development Areas LCDAs of the state.

EKSIEC commissioners and principal officers joined the chairman at the presentation of the election results.

The EKSIEC chairman praised the residents of the state for conducting themselves peacefully during and the exercise violence free.

He commended all the parties that participated in the election for displaying the spirit of sportsmanship.

The EKSIEC boss also appreciated all the staff of the commission who worked on the field, the security agents and the media for a job well done.

The major opposition, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) did not participate in the election with the EKSIEC chairman declaring that no fewer than eight political parties were on the ballot of the election.

They include Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADC), African Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC). Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
