The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has warned All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the state against engaging in anti-party activities.
This comes as he declared that state commissioners would serve as chairmen of the party’s Congress Committee in the local government areas.
The governor, who said this at the APC stakeholders meeting held at the Government House Minna, said the move became necessary following the expiration of the tenure of the state APC party executives.
He said the commissioners will be responsible for drafting a comprehensive list of members from their respective local governments and must ensure that they work closely with critical stakeholders.
Bago said the congress coordination committees must conform with the agreement reached by the critical stakeholders in every local government in order to have a congress devoid of rancour.
He advised the commissioners not to compromise as anyone found wanting would be dealt with accordingly claiming that APC is a disciplined party and “will not condone anti-party activities and gross misconduct from any party member.”
On his part, the APC vice chairman, North Central, Mu’azu Bawa Rijau, said the party, after its NEC meeting, concluded that all congresses would be by consensus at the ward, local, state, zonal and national levels and should be adopted by all members.
Bawa also reaffirmed the party’s support to the governor, whom he claimed has been doing remarkably well in all aspects.
