APC chairman in the state, Chief Tony Okocha, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, accused the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of being behind the protests.

Okocha said: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State is concerned about the spate of unending sponsored protests by suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his allies which is becoming a daily occurrence in Rivers State.

“Despite efforts to restore peace and stability in Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara and his allies continue to sponsor protests against Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, and against the Government of Rivers State.

“These protests, which have been ongoing for some time, are seen as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the State and undermine the authority of the Sole Administrator.

“The protests, in which women are procured, mobilised, and instructed to invade and disrupt government programs and activities, have gotten to an embarrassing level, raising serious concern about the safety of the daily lives of Rivers people and those living and doing business in the State.”

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has received scores of defectors from the All Peoples Party (APP) and the Labour Party (LP) in Oyigbo local government area of the state, into its fold.

Speaking during the occasion at Afam, headquarters of Oyigbo LGA, APC chairman in the state, Chief Tony Okocha, welcomed the defectors into the APC, and congratulated them on their bold step.

Okocha said: “The APC in Rivers State is on a supersonic level, and the only party in Rivers State capable of restoring back the glory of Rivers State, and the pride of Rivers people.

“At the moment, there’s no other political party in Rivers State that any serious minded person can think of associating with other than the APC. I can assure all of you of equal opportunity in distributing the benefits inherent in the APC in Rivers State under my watch.”

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the Rivers South-East Senatorial District coordinator of LP, Rev. Innocent Obiorah, thanked the leadership of the APC in Oyigbo LGA for the love extended to them and for accepting them wholeheartedly into the party.
