The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has disowned comments and statements perceived as attacks on civil servants in Osun State, insisting that the party has no connection with such remarks as preparations intensify for the Osun elections.

Basiru made the clarification on Saturday during a meeting with former Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) officials at his residence in Osogbo, where he emphasised that civil servants remain central to Osun State’s political and socio-economic development.

He said the APC holds workers in high regard and would never endorse statements capable of insulting or undermining their dignity.

“Those who go on radio to challenge workers over their numerical strength in Osun are not speaking for the APC. The party did not send them, and they do not represent our position in any way,” he said.

According to him, civil servants are critical stakeholders whose influence and understanding of governance make them important partners in the party’s bid to reclaim power in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

“Civil servants are enlightened people. They are respected in their communities, and people listen to them because they understand governance and leadership. I have enormous respect for them, and nobody has the authority to insult them in the name of our party,” Basiru added.

He urged workers in the state not to judge the APC based on personal opinions expressed by individuals, stressing that such remarks should not be mistaken for the party’s official stance.

“I want to appeal to our civil servants not to use their influence against the APC because of careless statements from some individuals. Those comments are personal opinions and not the official position of our party,” he said.

Turning to the forthcoming governorship election, Basiru warned party members against complacency, insisting that victory would depend on sustained mobilisation, reconciliation and grassroots engagement.

“I don’t believe in automatic victory. There is nothing like that in politics. We must work in every ward and every polling unit, and we must appeal to those who are aggrieved,” he stated.

He also urged party stakeholders to prioritise the success of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, over individual political ambitions, warning that internal divisions could undermine the party’s chances at the polls.

“Let me say this clearly: if we fail to secure victory for Oyebamiji on Aug. 15, your Senate and House of Representatives tickets in the APC are like bread labels,” he warned.

Basiru further called for unity within the party, urging members to close ranks and intensify efforts to return the APC to power in Osun State.
