A political group under the aegis of APC Patriotic Volunteers has scored the Kano State government under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) very low in performance in the last two years.
The group’s national president, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, gave the rating while briefing newsmen yesterday at the NUJ secretariat in Kano.
According to him, despite the billions accrued from federal allocations, internally generated revenue, and other sources, there has been insignificant development compared to the billions the government is collecting.
“The idea of fuel subsidy withdrawal at the onset of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration is meant to purposely increase government funding for impactful democratic dividends which became a dashed hope in Kano State.
“This is caused by petty sentiment, lack of clear-cut policy direction, formulation and implementation, and lack of competent people to manage the affairs and running of the government, which contributed to clear failure,” he said.
The group explained that despite the 31 per cent budgetary allocation for the education sector, many schools across all levels, especially in rural areas, remain in shambles. They also alleged that the power project at Tiga completed by the Ganduje administration meant to revive the economy and boost the water scheme in the state was diverted by the NNPP-led government to power the Kwassiya estate and benefits only few individuals without considering the larger population in the state.
“The same poor performance is recorded with respect to water supply in the state particularly in the metropolitan local government areas, residents all over spend sleepless night to look for water or buy from vendors exorbitantly adding more hardship to an already overstretched populace”.
The group accused the state governor of destroying billions of Naira worth of properties belonging to its citizens on the assumption of power.
