A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the APC Movement for Integrity and Unity, has urged the party to adopt a religiously balanced ticket in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), particularly by fielding a Muslim aspirant for the Abuja South federal constituency.

The group also endorsed Senator Philip Aduda for the FCT Senate seat and Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika for the AMAC/Bwari House of Representatives seat ahead of forthcoming elections.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Mallam Abubakar Mahmoud, and made available to journalists in Abuja, the group said its position was informed by the need to ensure ethnic and religious balance in the FCT’s political representation.

The group stressed that the FCT’s diverse population requires inclusive representation that reflects its demographic composition, noting that such an approach would strengthen the APC’s electoral chances.

It further argued that adopting a Muslim candidate for Abuja South would help the party attract non-indigenous voters and broaden its appeal among Muslim constituents.

“Senator Aduda’s experience and popularity make him a strong candidate, while Hon. Obika’s re-election would consolidate APC’s hold on AMAC/Bwari,” the statement said.

It added that Abuja South’s Muslim population deserves representation to balance the ticket, and presenting a Muslim aspirant would boost the party’s appeal to non-indigenes and Muslim voters.

It expressed optimism that a balanced ticket would enhance the party’s electoral prospects in the FCT.
