National Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched the Mustapha Abdullahi Energy Leadership Fellowship (MAELF) to develop young professionals in Nigeria’s energy sector.

A total of 1,212 applications were received from Nigerians and other Africans for the inaugural programme, of which 124 were selected for the screening stage.

The seven-day residential fellowship will focus on renewable energy, energy transition policies, climate action, leadership and governance.

On the initiative, APC national youth leader Dayo Israel said the programme was intended to prepare young people for emerging opportunities within the energy industry.

According to him, participants will be exposed to policy discussions, mentorship sessions, field visits and internship opportunities aimed at enhancing their understanding of developments in the sector.

The organisers also indicated that selected fellows may have access to grants of N20 million to support clean energy projects and innovations.

The fellowship, named after Mustapha Abdullahi, is expected to contribute to efforts to build a pool of young professionals with interests in energy development, sustainability and climate-related initiatives.

The APC National Youth Wing said the programme aligns with ongoing national conversations on energy transition and Nigeria’s long-term target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.
