APC Moves To Reconcile Aggrieved Members After Abia Primaries

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it is considering setting up a peace and reconciliation committee to address grievances arising from the party’s primaries for the 2027 general elections.

The state chairman of the party, Chijioke Chukwu, disclosed this while speaking with journalists after the governorship primary held in Umuahia, the state capital.

Chukwu appealed to aggrieved members to remain calm and loyal to the party, stressing that the move became necessary to unite members ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, the APC in the state is determined to approach the elections with a common purpose and secure victory from the presidential election down to the State Assembly contests.

“Everybody cannot win at the same time and same day. You can win today and lose tomorrow. You can lose tomorrow and win the next tomorrow,” he said.

“No position can be occupied by two persons at a time. It can only be one. Even before the exercise began, we were proactive to see where some of these challenges may come from.”

He acknowledged that disagreements and dissatisfaction were inevitable in a political party with a large membership base.

“There is no way you will have a party of this magnitude of followership and you will not see people who are aggrieved for one reason or the other.

“It’s not possible. Even in a small nuclear family, there are differences of opinion, differences of thoughts, and differences of expectations,” he added.

The APC chairman explained that the party leadership was already considering ways to ease the disappointment suffered by members who lost during the primaries.

Chukwu further appealed to aggrieved aspirants and their supporters not to defect or work against the party.

“We are making sure we see how we can reduce the financial burden of their loss,” he stated.
