Announcing the result at 12:36 a.m. on Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for Bagwai/Shanono Constituency, Professor Hassan Adamu Shitu, declared the NNPP candidate, Dr. Ali Hassan Kiyawa as winner with 16,198 votes over APC’s Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu, who polled 5,347 votes.

Meanwhile, at about 6:10 a.m Sunday morning, INEC Returning Officer for Ghari/Tsanyawa, Professor Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University, declared the APC’s candidate, Garba Ya’u Gwarmai, winner with 31,472 votes to defeat NNPP’s Yusuf Ali Maigado, who polled 27,931 votes.

The supplementary poll was conducted after the earlier exercise in the constituency was declared inconclusive.

LEADERSHIP had reported on Saturday that the APC rejected the conduct of the polls, calling for the cancellation of both by-elections over allegations of widespread violence and disruption by armed thugs.

The call prompted the NNPP leaders to stage a sit-in, accusing the commission of attempting to tamper with the Ghari/Tsanyawa results.
