The confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups yesterday dissociated themselves from a planned protest to be carried out by the Amalgamated APC support groups against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Director general (DG) of the Confederation of APC support groups, Engr. Dr Kailani Muhammad, who disclosed this at a press conference in Kaduna, also called on security agencies to be on the alert, stressing that such planned protest is uncalled for at this time.
He said the over 180 support groups under his leadership are supportive of the eight-point renewed agenda of President Tinubu and that they will ensure the president succeeds.
He said Tinubu is on course in repositioning the country, stressing that he needs maximum support to do so. He opposed the protest saying it is a needless distraction.
“All we need in this country is what will stabilise it, enough of protest,” he said.
He continued, “It is important that we continue to interact with the Nigerian citizens and highlight the positive developments and the challenges in our country. This we will embark upon in the context of positive engagements, such that will foster cohesion within the template of our democratic dispensation”.
He commended Tinubu for ordering the immediate cancellation of a policy empowering the federal government to automatically deduct 40% from the internally generated revenues (IGR) of federal universities.
“The 40 per cent IGR automatic deduction policy stands cancelled. This is not the best time for such policy since our universities are struggling,” Tinubu said at the 75th Founder’s Day ceremony of the University of Ibadan (UI)” he quoted the president to have said recently.
Although he accepted that the country is be passing through some challenging period, he said Tinubu has shown capacity and commitment to fixing it. He, therefore, urged Nigerians to support the president’s quest to reposition the country.
