Support groups loyal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State have appealed to the party’s national leadership to uphold the outcome of the state congress, warning that any attempt to alter the results could undermine the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal was made on Monday during a press conference held at the Double Four Event Centre, where the groups expressed concern over what they described as attempts by some stakeholders to overturn decisions reached during the congress conducted between March 3 and 4, 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, chairman Barrister Jibrin S. Jibrin and secretary Comrade Ibrahim Y. Muhammad stated that the congress was conducted in line with party guidelines and was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media and other observers.
According to them, the exercise produced Alhaji Muhammad Hassan Tilde as chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Zirami as secretary, and Hon. Yakubu Muhammed as organising secretary of the state executive.
The coalition leaders also presented what they described as a certified true copy of the congress results.
They alleged that some individuals who performed poorly in previous election cycles were making attempts to replace some of the elected officials with preferred candidates, warning that such a move could jeopardise the unity and momentum currently being built within the party in the state.
The group maintained that the congress was conducted in accordance with Article 20 of the APC Constitution and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, noting that while many states had already inaugurated their new party executives, Bauchi was yet to do so.
They further warned that internal disputes contributed to the party’s setbacks in the 2019 and 2023 elections in the state and cautioned against repeating such divisions ahead of the 2027 polls.
“Stakeholders have spoken on the choice of who should lead the APC in Bauchi. They elected and returned Alhaji Mustapha Zirami and Hon. Yakubu Muhammed as secretary and organising secretary. This is democracy and the will of party members should prevail,” the coalition said.
The groups appealed to President Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to ensure that the outcome of the Bauchi congress is upheld, stressing that doing so would strengthen support for the President and other APC candidates in future elections.
They added that Bauchi remains a politically significant state where party members have renewed their commitment to the APC, expressing optimism that unity within the party would translate into stronger electoral performance if internal disputes are resolved promptly.
