The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 local government chairmanship positions in the just concluded council’s elections in Kogi state on Saturday.
The ruling party was also declared the winner of all the 239 councillorship seats in the state.
The chairperson of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Nda-Eri, announced the results, describing the LGA elections as “peaceful, free, and fair”.
“APC performed excellently; it cleared all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, leaving nothing to the other 18 political parties that took part in the election,” NAN quoted Nda-Eri as saying.
“The results declared at the headquarters were earlier declared at the various collations centres by the respective returning officers.
Nda-Eri expressed gratitude to election officials, security personnel, observers, and journalists, acknowledging their role in ensuring a successful electoral process.
He urged the winners of the election to be magnanimous in their victories to justify the supreme court judgement that gave the local government financial autonomy.
The KOSIEC boss also thanked everyone who has contributed positively for the successful conduct of the elections.
