APC Sweeps Niger LG Election As PDP Boycotts Poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the chairmanship seats in all the 25 local government councils in the election conducted Thursday by the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC).
The commissioner in charge of operations in the commission, Comrade Ibrahim Aliyu Tunganwawa, announced the result in Minna.

He said due to some problems, the commission would conduct a re-run election in two wards of Rafi and Kontagora local government councils.
The two wards are of Kusherki of Rafi and Tungan know of Kontagora rescheduled for today.

Comrade Ibrahim Aliyu Tunganwawa who described the election as peaceful and orderly despite some minor hitches disclosed that 13 political parties participated in the local government polls.
LEADERSHIP Sunday report that the major opposition PDP had boycotted the election to challenge the process leading to the election in court.
It would be recalled that the state House of Assembly had also kicked against the election on the ground that the state was not financially buoyant to fund the exercise now.
