Barring last minute changes, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will hold its 8th National Convention at the Eagle Square in Abuja on Friday.

At a world press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the panel saddled with the task of organising the exercise, said preparations had been finalised for a smooth and credible convention with committees completing their assignments and operational frameworks in place.

According to them, the event will set a new benchmark for internal democracy, unity, and organisational strength.

Chairman of the APC Convention Central Coordinating Committee and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, said the convention would surpass previous editions in scale, organisation, and credibility.

Masari described the event as “bigger than the biggest,” noting that preparations began months ago with ward and local government congresses, followed by the inauguration of the Central Coordinating Committee.

He revealed that more than 25 sub-committees were constituted to oversee critical aspects of planning, ensuring efficiency and seamless coordination.

“We are satisfied with all that has been done so far. Nigerians, including those in the diaspora, will witness a convention that reflects the strength and unity of our party,” he said.

Masari stressed that the APC remains committed to strengthening democratic processes by promoting transparency and accountability within its internal structures.

“As leaders, we must set the pace by modelling a durable, reliable, and dependable democratic process. The outcome of this convention will justify and affirm that commitment,” he added.

Also speaking, the minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will highlight the party’s unity, democratic maturity, and commitment to national development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He described the convention as a major milestone that will bring together delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for leadership elections, policy discussions, and strategic planning.

“The convention is not just a routine exercise, but a moment of reflection, consolidation, and forward planning. It represents our collective resolve to strengthen democratic values, deepen internal governance, and align party processes with national development priorities,” he said.

The event, themed: “Unity in Progress – Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” underscores the party’s focus on cohesion, continuity, and clarity of purpose, while reinforcing its alignment with the governance vision of President Bola Tinubu.

According to Idris, the APC has remained a platform for progressive ideals and national cohesion since its founding, demonstrating resilience across multiple electoral cycles and maintaining its position as a dominant political force in Nigeria.

He noted that the party has consistently managed leadership transitions in an orderly and structured manner, supported by internal systems that promote accountability, inclusiveness, and stakeholder participation.

“The APC continues to evolve as a broad-based political platform that accommodates diverse perspectives while maintaining unity of purpose. This diversity remains a key strength in advancing national development and democratic consolidation,” he added.

The minister further disclosed that preparations have been finalised for a smooth and credible convention at Eagle Square, with committees completing their assignments and operational frameworks in place.

He assured Nigerians and the international community that the convention would meet global democratic standards, reflecting discipline, organisation, and respect for due process.

“As the convention approaches, the APC reaffirms its unity and collective responsibility. This gathering will showcase our commitment to democratic ideals, organisational discipline, and inclusive decision-making,” Idris said.

He also commended President Tinubu for his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and his role in the formation and growth of the APC, noting that his leadership continues to promote inclusivity and progressive governance.

“The APC remains committed to building a stronger, more united Nigeria, where governance is driven by accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear vision for progress,” the minister stated.
