Youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers South-East senatorial district, Hon. Innocent Ajaelu, has berated the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) for dissociating itself from the Rainbow Coalition.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, Ajaelu stated that as far as the APC national leadership has accepted the coalition, the position of the governors does not matter.
“First, let me say that APC governors failed to realise that they all came under one platform, called APC. APC as a party is bigger than even the President of Nigeria. So, if the APC as a party has accepted the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, I don’t know why the APC governors are getting worried over it.
“The national, the platform, the umbrella that holds all of us has accepted the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State because that is the easiest way to win election in Rivers State.
“Again, the APC governors’ forum refused to understand or they do understand but they just want to play to the gallery that what is obtainable in Rivers State, politically is different from what is obtainable in Imo State and Abia State. Every state, every local government has their own modus of doing things to win election,” he said.
The APC youth leader stated the Rainbow Coalition has been of great benefit to the party in the state in recent times.
Ajaelu said: “For instance, since 2014 that we officially joined APC in Nigeria till the last six months, I challenge the APC governors to tell us if APC has won a councilorship position in Rivers State. Has APC won any chairmanship position in Rivers State? The answer is no.
“But today, we have 20, out of the 23 LGA chairmen in Rivers State, elected on the platform of the APC. Today, we have 315 APC councillors in the 319 wards in Rivers State. To crown it all, today, we have a governor that is in APC. Don’t they think that it is because of this Rainbow Coalition that we are achieving all these feats.”
