The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that there is no vacancy in Lugard House and Aso Rock Villa in 2027 is undemocratic.
The rally had endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for second term office, ahead of the 2027 election.
Reacting however, the PDP chairman in the state, Enema Anyebe Ogugu, said, “Remember the PDP was in power in Kogi State before and our greatest strength is in our grassroot support.”
He said in a multi-party democracy, a leader who believes and practices democracy will never declare a no vacancy for contestable positions as provided by the law of the country.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Lokoja, the chairman added that “These statements show that they are not Democrats. They are just forcing themselves on the people. But anything that has a beginning has an end.
“When last by record, elections were conducted in Kogi State, there was opposition. Are they saying other political parties have vanished after then? The statement still shows their intolerance of opposition as provided by our laws.
“They are in Government and of course can use public resources to gather people in the name of rally even though INEC has not declared time for political rallies, since they have weaponised poverty. Again a violation of the rules of the land,’’ the chairman said.
Recall that at the APC rally on Saturday in Lokoja led by its State leader, former Governor Yahaya Bello, had declared a no vacancy in Lugard House and Aso Rock villa.
Other speakers at the event led by the chairman of the Rally organizing committee, Senator Smart Adeyemi, also promised to deliver a one hundred percent vote for President Tinubu and the incumbent governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
They maintained that the duo of president Tinubu and Ododo have done well to deserve a second term in office come 2027, saying that it will be a waste of time and resources for anyone to run against them.
