To ease the economic hardship faced by women in Bauchi State, a group, Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative has flagged off a skills acquisition programme for 200 women.
The programme, divided into two batches of 100 participants each, is being held in Bauchi local government area and is designed to equip the beneficiaries with practical skills to enhance their livelihoods, promote self-reliance and contribute to sustainable peace and development.
Speaking during the launch at Prestige International School, Gida Dubu, Bauchi yesterday, the state coordinator of the Initiative, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Akuyam, explained that the organisation was established by former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, with the core objective of promoting peace, unity, and development across Northern Nigeria.
He stressed that insecurity has had a devastating impact on the region, and empowering women is a vital step toward rebuilding society. “The training is part of our strategy to empower women because when you educate and empower a woman, you educate an entire society,” he said.
The state women’s leader, Hajiya Sa’adatu Aminu Yahaya, also highlighted the programme’s neutrality, emphasising that it was aimed purely at improving the living conditions of the Northern population.
She urged participants to take the opportunity seriously and pass on their knowledge to others.
The two-week training will cover skills such as the production of air freshener, liquid soap, milk candy, local food supplements, and “Turaren Wuta”. Experienced instructors will guide the women through each stage of the process.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with Antanzil and Prestige International Schools, reflecting the Initiative’s commitment to collaboration in driving soc
With this intervention, the Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity, and Development Initiative expressed confidence that the training will have a lasting impact, helping women become self-reliant while fostering peace and unity in Bauchi State and beyond.
