The leadership of the Arewa Grassroots Leaders Assembly (AGLA), has called on the federal government and security agencies to, as a matter of urgency, investigate the killing of 16 northern Nigerians in Uromi, Edo State.
In a statement by the national public relations secretary of the Arewa Grassroots Leaders Assembly, Joel Mahwash, the group said the national president of AGLA, Hon. Onogu Collins Monday, is deeply saddened and alarmed by the recent killing of these 16 northern Nigerians.
He strongly condemns the heinous act and demands that all relevant security authorities conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths.
The AGLA president stated that the killing of innocent citizens, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, is a blatant violation of their faith, fundamental human rights, and an affront to humanity.
He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that justice is served without delay.
He urged government authorities to take immediate action to identify and prosecute those responsible for these senseless killings.
The ALGA leader further called on the government to implement concrete measures to prevent such incidents in the future, address the root causes of violence, and promote dialogue, understanding, and peace among all Nigerians.
Hon. Onogu Collins Monday also highlighted the growing concerns about the security challenges faced by Northern Nigerians in various parts of the country. He stressed the need for a national security framework that prioritizes the safety of all citizens, regardless of their region or ethnic background.
Furthermore, he called for an independent panel to oversee the investigation, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process.
