Association of Arewa Professionals in the United Kingdom (UK) has described former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death as the passing of a great historical personage whose footprints will endure through many future generations in the country’s annals.
In a condolence message, the president of the association, Yunana Shibkau, said the late president died at a critical juncture in the nation’s political trajectory, “when his wealth of experience, wisdom and moral authority, were significantly needed in the on going efforts at deepening the roots of democracy, strengthening the fibres of national integration and, the resolution of the myriad of social and economic challenges prevailing in the country.”
The group condemned those reportedly jubilating over President Buhari’s passage as “a misguided and ill-informed bunch of unpatriotic people” who do not understand or appreciate the burden of leadership and the sacrifices that go into steering the ship of a nation as large, complex, and diverse as Nigeria.
In his words, “I cannot fathom the reasons for the twisted logic and shared demonstration of sadistic and demonic psychology that would drive Nigerians, especially some people from the northern parts of the country, to be joyous over the sad demise “of a leader who selflessly sacrificed so much in the service of his country during his lifetime.”
“There is no doubt, late President Muhammadu Buhari, as a mere mortal, did manifest instances of human frailties and shortcomings in the course of his public service. But, by and large however, the man significantly paid his dues to Nigeria, when cognisance is given to his track records of a young officer who fought gallantly in the war to keep his fatherland a one, united entity and also, his stints as a military Head of State and a two- term democratically elected President.”
The leader of the Arewa Professionals in the United Kingdom expressed the heartfelt condolences of members of his association and himself to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the former First Lady, Dr Aisha Buhari, the rest of the deceased president’s family members, the people of Katsina state, and the entire Nigerian citizens.
Engineer Yunana Shibkau, pioneer National Vice Chairman (northwest) of the defunct Action Alliance, AD, and a former Special Adviser on Inter-faith Affairs to former Zamfara state governor Sani Ahmed Yariman Bakura, noted that “the life and times of late President Muhammadu Buhari will remain an enduring reference point in single-minded comment on the lofty ideals of patriotism, accountability, and probity by leaders of the country.”
He prayed to Allah the Almighty to repose the soul of the late President Muhammadu Buhari in paradise in the hereafter.
