Aggrieved members of the Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa have threatened to take legal action against their president, Rabi Musa Saulawa over what they termed as high-handedness in the running of the affairs of the association.
Hajia Saulawa however said, they are not registered members of the association and, hence have no locus standi to accuse her of any wrongdoing.
Spokesperson of the group and caretaker chairperson of the Kano State chapter of the association, Hajia Kubra Ibrahim Dankani alongside other aggrieved members from the Jigawa State chapter accused Saulawa of running the association alone since the death of the treasurer, Hajia Lami Abba from Katsina State.
They also accused her of not holding any annual general meeting or national executive meeting since her election. The aggrieved members also said Saulawa has failed to reconcile the constitution and operational guidelines which were observed to be in conflict.
“There is never an audited account throughout the period under review, general meetings are to be conducted at least 4 times in a year but only one meeting was held immediately after the election, the second one to be held at Adamawa State did not hold due to lack of quorum in which some states were excluded,” the members said in a statement to our correspondent yesterday.
Saulawa has dismissed all their accusations. She said contrary to claims, she held one NEC meeting in Adamawa in 2021. “They are not registered members of the Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa and cannot be accorded membership status because we don’t have their files with us and besides all their accusations are baseless and should be discarded.
“They have been fighting me since I emerged as president and doing everything possible to see that I don’t succeed despite my efforts at uplifting the association, but I have remained resolute and committed to achieving results which are on the ground for all to see,” she said.
