A coalition of Arewa youth groups has nominated Senate President Godswill Akpabio for its excellence award, while urging him to prioritize welfare of citizens.
The groups, Arewa Youth Conference for Sustainable Future of Nigeria, Mass Integration for Peace Initiatives in Nigeria and Arewa Youth Development, said the nomination was in recognition of Akpabio’s contributions and style of leadership within the Nigerian political landscape.
A statement co-signed by the chairman and secretary of the group, Muttaka Ahmed Ibrahim and Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Argungun respectively, the coalition said the award will be conferred on him at Arewa House in Kaduna.
The duo said “the organisations believe that Sen. Akpabio’s dedications to service, outstanding achievements, and commitments to peace initiatives in Nigeria made him a worthy recipient of this accolade.” Other reasons cited for his nomination include, “his moves to let the poor to breath”.
The groups said Akpabio’s prompt action in overseeing the recent screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees demonstrates his commitment to effective governance and ensuring the swift appointment of qualified individuals to key positions in the government.
The statement added that Akpabio’s “principled stance” in rejecting an application to deploy the army to invade Niger Republic, a neighbouring country, was a testament to his commitment to regional stability and cooperation.
“This action showcases his dedication to maintaining strong diplomatic ties and preserving peace in the West African region,” it said.
The group said Akpabio’s promise to prioritize the welfare of unemployed youth during his administration was in line with its principle of youth empowerment.
They therefore urged him to continue working towards fulfilling such a promise, “as the empowerment of the youth is crucial for the growth of peace and progress of our nation.
“We congratulate Senator Godswill Akpabio on his nomination for the PAR Excellence Award, and we look forward to his continued contributions to the betterment of Nigeria.
“His dedication to service and commitment to peace truly exemplify the spirit of the Honorable Order of Mass Integration for Peace Initiatives in Nigeria.”
