Secretary-general of the Arewa Youth Progressive Association (AYPAS), Comrade Salihu Dantata Mahmud, has expressed sorrow over the death of retired Staff Sergeant Garba Gambo, describing it as a significant loss to Nigeria.
Conveying the group’s condolences in a statement in Abuja yesterday, he highlighted the late officer’s exemplary service to the nation, saying, “Staff Sergeant Garba Gambo was a brave soldier who served Nigeria meritoriously across various military formations.”
Gambo’s distinguished career included postings at the Nigerian Military School in Zaria, the Janguza Cantonment in Kano, and a field base in Bakassi during the conflict following Cameroon’s annexation of part of Nigerian territory.
“We extend our condolences to the Army authorities, his family, and his colleagues, Nigeria has lost a rare gem, and we pray to Allah to grant him eternal rest,” Mahmud added.
Garba Gambo is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, including Mustapha, Zainab, Ibrahim, Mariam, Rabi, Aisha, and Salihu Mahmud Salihu, a student at Northwest University Kano’s Faculty of International Relations.
