Pop superstar Ariana Grande has officially ushered in a new chapter of her music career with the release of ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me,’ the lead single from her forthcoming eighth studio album, Petal.

Released on Friday, May 29, the song marks Grande’s first non-soundtrack single since 2025’s ‘Twilight Zone’ and serves as the second track on her upcoming album.

On the emotional track, co-produced by Grande alongside renowned producers Max Martin and ILYA, the Grammy-winning singer reflects on moving on from a relationship. “I know that I will find my way from you like flowers from a tomb,” she sings.

Grande first announced ‘Petal’ in April through her Instagram page, later describing the 12-track project as a more uninhibited and daring body of work.

“It’s definitely from a place I’ve been maybe too shy or polite to tap into before,” she said in a video message.

The album is scheduled for release on July 31 through her BabyDoll Music imprint in partnership with Republic Records.

Ahead of the single’s release, Grande teased fans with a mysterious preview of the official music video. The clip featured actor Justin Long looking into a rearview mirror before Grande’s eyes suddenly appeared behind him, creating a suspenseful atmosphere. The full video is set to premiere on June 1.

‘Petal’ follows Grande’s successful 2024 album, ‘Eternal Sunshine’, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart and produced chart-topping hits including ‘Yes, And?’ and ‘We Can’t Be Friends.’ The album later returned to No. 1 following the release of its ‘Brighter Days Ahead’ deluxe edition.
