Governor Mbah further appreciated the visit of the COAS, noting, “I wish to congratulate you on your appointment, which did not come as a surprise considering your antecedents in previous commands in the North East and other formations.”

The governor added that Enugu State was honoured to host the COAS and his team for the Regimental Sergeant Majors’ Convention.

The army chief who also visited troops of 82 Division at the Division Headquarters and the Forward Operations Base in Ivo, Abia State, lauded their efforts, noting that their sacrifices and commitment to duty had contributed immensely to the improved security situation across the South East.

He assured them that their welfare remained a top priority and encouraged them to remain proud of their service to the nation.

The statement said the Chief of Army Staff later attended the closing ceremony of the 2nd Regimental Sergeant Majors’ (RSM) Convention 2025, with the theme; “RSM Roles in Operational Readiness and Combat Effectiveness,” hosted by the Department of Administration, Nigerian Army.

General Shaibu described the convention as a significant event, being his first official engagement since assuming office.

He emphasised that the gathering provided a platform for meaningful deliberations and the exchange of ideas aimed at strengthening regimentation, discipline and leadership across all formations and units of the Nigerian Army.

Earlier, the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi, commended the RSMs for their zeal, commitment and dedication in upholding discipline within the Nigerian Army.

He noted that the convention had broadened participants’ understanding of their regimental responsibilities and enhanced their leadership capabilities.
