The Commander, 25 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General M Uba, who led the patrol team that was ambushed by Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorists in Wajiroko, in Azir Multe, Damboa local government of Borno State has been reportedly killed.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the Army, through a statement issued after the ambush by the Acting Deputy Director Public Relations, Lt . Col Appolonia Anaele, on Saturday, confirmed that two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) paid the supreme price in the attack, but refuted the reports of abduction or killing of the Birgade Commander earlier circulating on some online media platforms.
The Army General was reportedly captured after he suffered gunshot injuries following a fierce encounter with the terrorists around the Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa LGA.
He led his men out of the bush, but he fell to the terrorists’ pursuit on his way back to his base.
Though the Nigerian Army initially denied his capture by the terrorists based on the intelligence report that he escaped the ambush.
However, the terrorists after confirming his escape, pursued the General until they caught him alive.
A statement by the terrorist group read, “By the grace of God Almighty, the soldiers of the Caliphate were able to capture a ‘Brigade Commander’ in the apostate Nigerian Army the day before yesterday after he fled from an ambush set up by the Mujahideen on Friday near the town of Wajiroko) in the Borno region.”
“After interrogating him, the Mujahideen killed him with their weapons and returned safely,” the statement added.
A picture sighted by LEADERSHIP which was released on social media by the terrorists revealed the tying of the General’s hands in an unknown location.
The Nigerian military has neither issued a statement regarding the latest development nor again refuted the killing of Brigadier General Uba as reported by the terrorists with his picture in captivity before his execution.
